Naval Architect

Direct Reporting: Project Coordinators / Naval Architecture Manager

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • Professional Chartered Status or working towards.
  • Experience within the large superyacht industry.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and undertake Naval Architecture tasks.
  • Undertake design calculations and development of technical drawings.
  • Undertake site visits either individually or as part of a team. Site activities may include deadweight surveys, inclining experiments, new build construction, refit surveys and investigations.
  • Development and support of design studies and provision of technical services, to include:

-Concept design (hull lines, weight estimates, etc.),

-Powering and propulsion studies,

-Stability analysis, intact and damage,

-Statutory documents (escaping, LSA, fire protection, etc.),

-Structural design.

  • Coordinate projects independently or as part of a team.

 

Essential Skills:

  • Good analytical skills and theoretical background in the main fields of Naval Architecture (global and local structural analysis, resistance and powering, intact and damage stability, etc.).
  • Able to apply first principles methodology for concept design applications (weight, performance, stability, etc.).
  • Proven experience in application of Classification Societies, Flag Administrations, IMO Rules and Regulations to large superyachts (pax/ferry vessels may be considered).
  • Strong 2D drafting and 3D modelling skills.
  • Good technical report writing.
  • To be Client facing with good interpersonal skills.
  • Team mentality.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Inquiring and creative mind set.
  • Methodical approach.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a superyacht exterior and interior design environment.
  • Understanding of marine engineering topics.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Right to live and work in UK.
  • Adhere to Company policies and practices.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Passport.
  • Full driving licence – preferred but not essential.
  • Available to travel at short notice and on occasions spend time away from home
