We are working on behalf of a well-established marine design consultancy specialising in the design, technical support, and decarbonisation of military and professional high-speed craft, as well as specialist vessels.
With a strong track record across both defence and commercial sectors, the business supports a diverse portfolio of projects, including advanced vessel design, consultancy services, and low-emission marine solutions. As part of its continued growth strategy, the company is now looking to appoint a Business Development Manager to expand its third-party project portfolio and drive new opportunities across the market.
Job Specification
The BD Manager will report to the MD and have the following key responsibilities:
- To lead BD activities within the business, with the following key objectives:
- Increase 3rd Party work of all types (design, technical support, consultancy)
- Deliver design projects for larger military vessels (up to say 24m) and commercial vessels such as electric ferries (up to say 50m)
- Sales of design (and boat sales with build partners) of electric workboats
- To identify, develop and deliver future opportunities
- To build effective relationships with potential customers
- To lead and manage the business’ presence at selected trade shows, conferences and exhibitions
- To lead and manage the business’ marketing, website and social media presence
- To manage and support, production and delivery of proposals and tender responses
- To lead the introduction and maintenance of a customer/opportunities database
- To supervise the work of the BD Administrator
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal applicant will have the following attributes:
- A mature marine industry professional with extensive experience in the UK military/commercial marine industry
- Qualified to degree level in a relevant technical subject (engineering, naval architecture, etc.) or a relevant alternative
- A good technical knowledge of smaller military and commercial vessels
- A good knowledge of the MOD and working with the MOD
- Be self-motivated and ambitious
- Able to work alone and as part of a team
- A team-player with excellent inter-personal and presentational skills
- A flexible approach
- Results focused
- Organised and with good attention to detail
- Enjoy and able to travel frequently within the UK and abroad sometimes at short notice
