Job Purpose:

To conduct mechanical design and engineering to develop the business portfolio, with a focus on 3D modelling, 2D manufacture packs, system design and product visualisation.

Support the naval architecture and systems design teams through rapid prototyping of the business portfolio and development into production.

Assist in the development of design processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Computer Aided Design in 2D and 3D using the Siemens NX portfolio, Rhino and/or AutoCAD.
  • Preparation of 2D design documentation such as structural arrangements, ply books, cut files, assemblies etc.
  • Preparation of 3D design documentation such as mould geometries and CNC machined parts.
  • Preparation of design visualisations using 2D renders and 3D virtual reality models in either NX or Unreal Engine.
  • Liaison with shop floor to capture design changes and produce as-fits.
  • Material selection.
  • Mechanical subsystem design.
  • Hydraulic and actuation system design.
  • Programming CNC machines.
  • Interface with design team to ensure design meets requirements.
  • Design for manufacture and manufacture strategy.
  • Application of relevant ISO and BS standards for manufacture, such as tolerancing or weld specifications.
  • Support the marketing team with visualisations of the designs.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.

  • To carry out any other duties as detailed by a member of the senior management team or authorised representative.
  • To keep good time management to minimise any wasted time and maximise productivity and effectiveness.

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • To ensure that the working area is a clean and safe environment in compliance with the best practice and health and safety policies.
  • To ensure any equipment used is safe, within electrical test date and all guards and interlocks are working and in place.
  • To act safely and responsibly in line with company processes and Health and Safety procedures to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
  • To report any potential Health and safety hazards or violations to your supervisor/ line manager or directly to the QHSE manager.
  • To ensure any PPE or work wear required or provided for the job is worn and checked regularly for wear, and then reported when replacements required.
