We’re seeking a Marine Systems Engineer to join our client’s team in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Marine Systems Engineer is responsible for engineering activities relating to the design, procurement, and integration. Outfit equipment may include, but is not limited to, mission equipment, lifting appliances, winches, anchoring & mooring equipment, boat davits, aviation support systems, watertight doors & hatches, accommodation systems, joinery and fixtures for accommodations and workshops. This role will report to the Team Lead for Hull Outfitting and Aviation.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant Engineering Field.
    • Nova Scotia Professional Engineer (P. Eng) or equivalent; or the ability to obtain P. Eng.
  • Extensive engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with the design of shipboard hull outfitting systems.
  • Familiarity with performance and environmental requirements for equipment and systems.
  • Management of vendor-furnished information and equipment.
  • Familiarity with the preparation and review of technical specifications for equipment and materials purchase.
  • Strong personal time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience working on naval ship design, commercial shipbuilding, or other large military procurement programs considered an asset.
  • Experience working with classification society rules and classification societies to achieve plan approval for design products considered an asset.
  • Experience with integrating ship outfitting including shipboard lifting appliances, winches, anchoring & mooring equipment, davits, aviation support systems, watertight doors & hatches, accommodation systems, joiner interior accommodations, and fixtures for accommodation and workshop spaces considered an asset.
  • Experience in designing and integrating naval vessel mission equipment considered an asset.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and foster client and subcontractor relationships.
  • Oversee functional working groups spanning multiple organisations, in support of development and/or production.
  • Assess compliance with systems requirements throughout ship design and construction.
  • Liaise closely with supply chain and vendors to progress systems design of Outfitting and/or Aviation Support systems.
  • Support the review of system maturity during technical design reviews.
  • Manage subcontractor development of design deliverables and technical specifications.
  • Interface with Classification Society and Regulatory Authorities to obtain Class Plan Approval and support new construction surveys.
  • Oversee change management associated with marine systems (Hull Outfitting and/or Aviation Support Systems).
  • Address risk items relating to the Hull Outfitting and Aviation Team areas of responsibility, including identification of risk, and risk mitigation planning.
  • Assist in developing and implementing test procedures and requirements verification tracking.
  • Participate in the development and oversight of testing and commissioning procedures.
  • Support the final project close out of all documentation updates and development of user manuals relating to outfitting systems.
  • Interface with shipyard production and planning teams to ensure the outfitting design products adequately reflect facility limitations, capabilities, and build methodology.
  • Propose design and process improvements related to vessel producibility, shipyard safety, and production performance.
