We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to fulfil the Electrical Capability Lead role and act as the professional head of function for the Electrical Capability within the Marine Engineering Capability Group of our client’s UK & Europe region.

As an electrical engineering specialist you will be responsible for professionally and efficiently leading the Electrical Engineering team to meet the current and future needs of our customers. This includes the day-to-day management of the Electrical Engineering team and supporting the strategic development of the Electrical capability by managing effective utilisation of resource including oversight of recruitment needs, retention and succession planning.

You will provide the foundation of electrical engineering support across a range of exciting and challenging technical consultancy projects; leading winning bids and delighting customers with project outputs principally in the Maritime (Defence or Commercial Shipping) Sector but also including Land and Environmental Sectors.

The role is based in the Southwest from our client’s Bath office (also an office in Bristol); however, they happily promote flexibility and homeworking for staff where appropriate. The successful candidates will be able to combine remote and office-based working.  Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required.

About You:

You will be professional qualified; registered as a Chartered Engineer with an appropriate professional body, holding a Masters degree or recognised equivalent.

You will have the ability to communicate and act with integrity with all levels of the business and customers, promoting a lessons learnt culture and contributing to business success though considered decision making and influencing the employee engagement agenda.

The following skills are considered essential:

  • A Strong academic background, in the field of Electrical Engineering with specialism of high power Marine electrical system design & development;
  • Having familiarity with Electrical Engineering modelling tools (e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, ETAP, etc);
  • Understanding of Marine Electrical Industrial Standards and Class Society regulations;
  • Awareness of Industry practice, for the design and manufacture of Electrical systems & equipment;
  • Ability to critically assess new technologies and provide independent insight into their suitability for future marine platforms;
  • Experience in understanding clients’ needs and producing proposals and statements of work in competitive and sole source environments.

The following skills are desirable:

  • Experience of Electrical system & equipment testing, trials, and commissioning;
  • Demonstrable capability to work across the entire platform lifecycle, from concept development through to in-service support and disposal;
  • Active engagement with an appropriate Professional Body, attending and contributing towards conferences and events.
