In this role, you will:

  • Be a technical lead within the Waterfront Electrical engineering section, primarily focusing on supporting both Victoria Class Submarine electrical and electronic systems
  • Draft, review, and approve repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities
  • Provide mentoring and professional oversight for engineers-in-training and technologists
  • Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine mission systems such as: Above Water Sensors, Sonar, Command and Control, Navigation, and Communication
  • Be responsive to Program and Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment
  • Be the system’s technical lead and provide oversight on complex fault diagnosis activities and system operations involving non-standard line-ups or modified configurations
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and appropriate treatments
  • Ensure lessons from experience (LFE) are collated and recorded in the management system
  • Conduct other duties as necessary or as reasonably assigned from time to time

 

The ideal candidate brings:

  • A post-secondary Engineering degree in an electrical, electronics, or applicable discipline (Master’s degree desirable)
  • Licensed to practice in Canada as a Professional Engineer or able to complete such registration within 12 months
  • Extensive experience working as an Engineer within an applicable discipline
  • Extensive experience as an electronics engineer in the naval environment (submarine-specific experience is desirable)
  • Extensive experience in mentoring/guiding technical teams desirable
  • Knowledge of Above Water Sensors, Sonar, Command and Control, Navigation, or Communication systems is required
  • Experience in field functional testing of electronic components required
  • Knowledge of Alternating Current systems and power distribution control systems required
  • Control and monitoring system testing experience required
  • Experience with fibre optic applications, cable characteristics, connectors, termination, inspection and testing, an asset
  • Knowledge of uninterrupted power supplies and switching, an asset
  • New construction commissioning or retro-commissioning, an asset
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office suite desirable
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance

 

Expected Salary: $81,738 to $118,065
