The Systems Solutions Engineer is part of the engineering team that develops marine systems for the company’s government and naval markets. The Systems Solutions Engineer plays a critical role in the development of the overall concept, requirements, design, verification and validation for the company’s complex products. The Systems Solutions Engineer will execute various system engineering functions throughout the life cycle of a product or project. The incumbent has experience in working with various organizations and system components (software engineering, hardware engineering, integration and test, production, manufacturing and logistics) and can take on the technical lead of a project.
Responsibilities
Technical
- Develops design concepts and generates technical proposals in response to Requests for Quotation (RFQ) and documents in the Concept of Operations and Technical Proposal
- Develops system requirements, performs requirements analysis, traceability and feasibility studies and documents in the System Subsystem Requirements Specification
- Develops system designs, performs functional analysis, defines systems architecture, defines interfaces and specification performs trade studies and documents the design by writing System Subsystem Design Documents, Interface Control Documents etc
- Designs to government standards, including Military and IMO standards, ensuring ongoing compliance and adherence to requirements
- Ensures availability, reliability and other logistics support considerations are part of the system design process
- Develops acceptance test plans, procedures and reports
- Manages Systems Problem Reports (SPRs), develops and recommends corrective actions for SPRs
- Leads/participates in system integration, verification and validation events and activities
- Reviews obsolescence issues and recommends design changes
Programmatic
- Creates system engineering management plans and other technical documentation required to plan and schedule engineering activities
- Supports subsystem supplier technical engagements for sensors, effectors and information systems specified including generation of RFQ and Statements of Work (SOW)
- Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies
- Leads/Participates in customer design reviews and acceptance events
- May participate in system integration tests, trials, and acceptance tests at customer facilities
- Manages the scope of work, schedules work, estimates effort and costs, and identifies technical risks; effectively communicates status on a regular basis to management
- Works in both a team environment and independently with minimum supervision;
- Mentors and coaches other systems engineers.
Decision-Making Authority
- Single point accountability for technical aspects of a project where identified as the Lead SE
- Decision-making authority within the confines of requirements acceptance, analysis and verification
- Carries out authority on the revision and release of Technical Documentation
- Applies judgment and makes decisions to solve routine or complex issues
- Considerable judgment is necessary for handling confidential information
Knowledge & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of mission management or combat management, and tactical sensors or systems
- Experience in generating new products by leveraging existing COTS/MOTS components a significant asset
- Strong track record of creating complex network design and system-level architectures
- Excellent knowledge of systems engineering principles, standards and best practices
- Familiarity with requirements and verification management tools such as DOORS
- Degree in Engineering or Physics or related field or equivalent experience; eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada an asset
- Engineering experience, Experience in Systems Engineering; Experience in marine electronics and mission management systems a significant asset
- Experience leading a team of engineers on projects
- Proven track record in the timely delivery of engineering-related projects
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a location-relevant security clearance
- Willingness and ability to travel
