Project Manager – Major Projects

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, Marine, the Project Manager – Major Projects will be a senior leadership position managing a diverse integrated project team and subcontractors.  You will be responsible for the delivery, leadership and direction of a major submarine refit project: planning for and implementing improvement opportunities, organising and motivating resources to achieve project goals, identifying and mitigating program risks and delivering the contract to a high quality standard to cost and schedule.  You will be a champion of collaborative working and relational contracting.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for the occupational Health & Safety of all direct reports under your supervision
  • Responsible for the day to day management of project performance:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and close-out of all project activities
  • Lead and facilitate the definition of project scope and deliverables
  • Develop and implement full scale project management plans
  • Assemble and coordinate the project teams
  • Manage project cost control
  • Plan and schedule project key events and lifecycles
  • Track project performance using appropriate tools
  • Ensure the project follows any quality assurance commitments
  • Monitor and report on progress of the project to appropriate stakeholders
  • Actively support the Project Management Team to develop and communicate strategies and plans, and set objectives across the organisation to meet program goals
  • Coordinate stakeholders, service providers, and subcontractors to deliver on project commitments
  • Ensure that active risk and opportunity management is employed to reduce the impact on schedule and develop recovery plans when issues arise
  • Integrate the Production and Commissioning Teams, ensuring that handovers of systems maintain a seamless transition
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions
  • Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project outputs
  • Perform project reviews, evaluations, and assessment of results
  • Develop and deliver performance improvement initiatives while driving other departments to deliver on their own initiatives in support of the project goals
  • Perform other duties as necessary


As our ideal candidate you:

  • Have a post secondary education in an Engineering or Project Management discipline or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Have a minimum of 15 years Project Management experience in major projects equating to over $100M annually.
  • Are a member of or are registered with an appropriate Professional body, such as the Project Management Institute (PMI)
  • Have experience in complex project environments, preferably within the marine industry
  • Have knowledge of:
    • Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
    • Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes and systems
    • Planning, Scheduling, Earned Value
    • Risk
    • Project Management Controls
  • Are eligible for a Canadian NATO Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
