Principal Project Engineer

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for the occupational Health & Safety of all direct reports and matrix team members
  • Lead integrated project teams to deliver complex, high integrity marine engineering projects from requirements definition, through detailed product design, implementation, and verification
  • Coordinate with engineering functional managers to ensure appropriate internal and contracted resources are assigned to achieve engineering project objectives
  • Monitor, coordinate, and report on engineering and technical progress to meet allocated budget and schedule requirements
  • Work collaboratively with the project and program management teams, as well as the engineering functional authorities, to ensure successful completion of technical project delivery milestones including necessary engineering governance and technical reviews
  • Assess, document, and communicate technical risks to both internal and external customers as well as actively implementing mitigations or taking opportunities for improvement associated with technical project delivery
  • Support the business capture and program management teams to win new business and initiate new projects of work including developing project quotes and bid estimates for engineering activities
  • Provide mentorship to grow engineering project leadership capabilities to meet current and future business requirements
  • Support the development, communication and maintenance of standards for coordinating engineers and technical project leaders
  • Lead internal Design and Systems Engineering organisational change projects including delivery improvement initiatives, lean process development, and the generation of new capability


The ideal candidate brings:

  • A Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in good standing with current registration or immediate eligibility to register in the Province of British Columbia, Ontario, or Nova Scotia.
  • An engineering degree from an accredited Canadian educational institute or from a recognised foreign equivalent
  • Extensive engineering systems and product design delivery experience in a marine, defence, or a related complex and safety critical industry
  • Proven leadership skills with experience directly managing and providing professional guidance to technical teams
  • Recent and significant experience working and managing integrated engineering and technical teams within a matrixed organisation
  • Recent and significant experience in full life cycle engineering product development
  • Knowledge of systems engineering standards and experience conducting system design and development within an ISO 15288 framework, or similar engineering management framework, would be considered an asset
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively within a collaborative and matrixed team environment
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple competing tasks and priorities while remaining focused, calm, and professional under pressure
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
