Responsible for managing all the Fabrication requirements of the company for all vessel projects.

Reports to: Production Manager

Direct Reports: Production Coordinator – Fabrication

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish a self-sustaining shipyard
    • Recruit a professional and competent team of fabrication personnel in line with the shipyard development plan
  • Efficient construction of vessels;

  • Safety, Health & environment
    • Direct responsibility for establishing and improving safe and environmentally responsible work practices across the shipyard
  • Human resource management
    • Conduct human resource planning as basis for recruitment and development of employees to fit team positions
    • Provide training and support to new hires in terms of job description and responsibilities and ensure to provide the required resources to fulfil the role
    • Collaborate with HR for cross-training employees to ensure job rotation and minimise assignment coverage gaps
    • Provide coaching and performance feedback to all team members and identify the need for corrective actions
    • Communicate and ensure understanding of functional or departmental goals
    • Monitor individual and team metrics and performance versus targets
    • Evaluating overall team and individual performance and delivering the performance reviews
    • Engaging with other line managers across the organisation and maintain high level of communication with direct reports, other departments & Production Manager
    • Providing reports on productivity and other performance indicators to management
    • Direct management of fabrication personnel including development and performance management
    • Establish high level of teamwork and morale
    • Continuous monitoring and management of resource plans and schedules
  • Contractor and supplier management
    • Manage external contractors as required
    • Liaise with the SCM Manager to ensure all material requirements are met in an efficient manner (time, cost, quality)
  • Cost control
    • Establish and monitor labour and material budgets
    • Periodic reporting on cost performance and variances
    • Identifying and implementing cost reduction initiatives
  • Quality
    • To conduct work as per Austal standards and procedures
    • Implement and support continuous improvement initiatives
    • Identify and implement waste elimination initiatives
    • Ensure quality standards for all processes
  • Culture
    • Actively support all business policies and values
    • Establish and maintain a culture of accountability and responsibility
    • Promote strong working relationships between AP personnel and other work places

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S Engineering Graduate

TECHNICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience in shipbuilding construction management
  • Knowledge and experience of Aluminium ship construction methods, joints and welding standards.
  • Knowledge of GL and DNV Aluminium welding standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of the latest aluminium construction NDT methods.
  • Work Planning and scheduling.
  • Creating a budget and budget management.
  • OHS & E experience.
  • Management of contractors.
  • Monitoring and setting of KPI’s
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 QMS
  • Computer literate.
  • Proven leadership and management abilities
