Senior Electrical Engineer

Are you an experienced electrical engineer? Our client based in South Australia is searching for a Senior Electrical Technologist to join their team.

The purpose of this role is to provide technical input into the selection of submarine- electrical equipment items. The Senior Electrical Technologist is expected to work closely with the design team in Europe and the Procurement team in Australia to help select equipment solutions that meet a broad range of programmatic needs.

The key accountabilities of the Senior Electrical Technologist include:

• Receiving direction from the Electrical Technologist Team Leader on tasks and carrying them out with autonomy
• Participate in the development of technical specifications of equipment and providing it to the Procurement team to identify potential suppliers.
• Participating in the update of the electrical technology plan (document which lists all of the electrical equipment that can be used for the design of the submarine).
• Liaising with external suppliers to verify whether equipment meets specifications.
• Conducting analyses, evaluating equipment options and making recommendations to the Electrical Technologist Team Leader as to which are the best options from a technical perspective.
• Overseeing qualification activities to verify and validate equipment performance.
• Ensure the deadline for carrying out electrical analyses.
• Possesses a high level of knowledge of submarine’s electrical systems to make thorough evaluations of electrical equipment.
• Supporting the Electrical Design Team in Europe by sourcing the equipment required from Australian suppliers that conforms to the specified functional and performance levels.
• Ensuring deliverables are executed with standardized processes, frameworks and guidelines.
• Demonstrating analyses are carried out systematically and consistently.
• Ensure control of the commitments (technical performance, costs, deadlines and quality).

Education & Experience 

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required
• 2 – 5 years experience in submarines is highly desirable, with knowledge of:
– Electricity and propulsion network architectures
– Electrical propulsion motors
– Production and storage of electrical energy (diesel alternator, batteries, UPS)
– Distribution and selectivity (short-circuit current calculations, AC and DC tables in low voltage networks, static converters)
• Experience in onboard electrical equipment is required
• Experience with Direct Current Networks is required
• Experience in other areas of defense and/ or maritime industries will be considered
